At Greenwood Custom Stocks, we build high quality stocks to customer’s dimensions. These are built one at a time. Starting with building a pattern stock built to customer’s grip curve & palm swell location, to comb height, cast on or off & length of pull & pitch. Then the gun is taken to the pattern plate & finally to the range to check the stock while customer is hooting targets. Some adjusting may be performed during this process to ensure the final fit. The forend is gone over at this time as well to get the proper style. Once these final dimensions are determined and the stock blank chosen, the new stock is ready to be started. The stock is inletted and the dimensions are transferred to the stock. The stocks are built along classic lines with the proper amount of wood on the stock. Not bulky or clubby stocks. Once the stock is shaped & sanded, it is ready for a nice oil finish. The pores are filled with marine grade oil for protection, sanded out & final layers of finish are applied for a nice satin look. The stock is then ready for checkering. May different checkering patterns can be performed with 22-26 LPI. This is a very involved & detailed type project but with very satisfying results for the client. |
